Our volunteers will be providing stand-by for Assault on Blackrock and Special Olympics Polar Plunge. We will also providing manpower to assist cleaning trails with Smokey Mountain Off-Road Vehicle Club. Our UTV/Ropes and Medical Responders will be on-site during the Assault on Blackrock. We will have a Swift-water Rescue Team and Dive members at the Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Dillsboro. Several of our members will be assisting the local off road club with trail clearing and safety.

Each Tuesday JCRS members (all volunteers) meet at Station 2 for training. This training session involved GPS mapping, UTV Rescue Operations, Chainsaws, Rope Rescue, Patient Packaging, and over all call response. Our members were given a GPS coordinates (What we normally receive on a dispatched call from a cell phone caller). They used the position to come up with a plan to access the mock patient. During the exercise members were tasked with setting up Incident Command, UTV Operations Team and a Rope Rescue Team. UTV’s and chainsaws were used to gain access to the mock patient. A ropes team was sent down approximately 80 ft while UTV teams were tasked with rotating the UTV convoy around for egress. The ropes team rappelled down the 80 ft embankment. The UTV team setup a 5:1 mechanical advantage to demonstrate 1-2 rescuer recovery of the lower team.
