…SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM LIKELY TO AFFECT THE WESTERN
CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT…

.THE COMBINATION OF A COLD CANADIAN AIR MASS BUILDING OVER TO THE
NORTH OF THE REGION…ALONG WITH GRADUALLY RETURNING MOISTURE
FROM LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPING OVER THE NORTHERN GULF OF
MEXICO…WILL PRODUCE A PERIOD OF WINTRY PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE
REGION THROUGH MID WEEK. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION WILL AFFECT

A WINTER STORM WATCH…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING
THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING.

* LOCATIONS…NORTHEAST GEORGIA…UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA…AND THE
SOUTHERN TIER OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA.

* HAZARDS…HEAVY SNOW AND SLEET…WITH AREAS OF FREEZING RAIN IN
THE LOWER PIEDMONT.

* TIMING…MAINLY LIGHT SNOW AND SLEET SHOULD IMPACT THE REGION
TUESDAY INTO TUESDAY NIGHT. THE PRECIPITATION WILL BECOME
HEAVIER WEDNESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT…WITH SLEET INCREASINGLY
MIXING IN FROM THE SOUTH…ALONG WITH FREEZING RAIN IN LOCATIONS
SOUTHEAST OF INTERSTATE 85.

* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES ALONG THE
EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MOUNTAINS…4 TO 6 INCHES ALONG AND
NORTHWEST OF THE INTERSTATE 85 CORRIDOR…AND 2 TO 4 INCHES
SOUTHEAST OF INTERSTATE 85. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A TRACE TO ONE
TENTH OF AN INCH ARE EXPECTED ALONG INTERSTATE 85…WITH
ACCUMULATIONS RANGING UP TO ONE QUARTER TO ONE THIRD OF AN INCH
IN THE SOUTHEAST PIEDMONT FROM ABBEVILLE TO CHESTER TO MONROE.

* IMPACTS…THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW…SIGNIFICANT
SLEET…AND FREEZING RAIN WILL MAKE TRAVEL TREACHEROUS. THE
ACCUMULATIONS MAY ALSO CREATE NUMEROUS POWER
OUTAGES…ESPECIALLY WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

* TEMPERATURES…MAINLY IN THE UPPER 20S AND LOWER 30S.
