FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG SC
403 AM EDT WED MAY 14 2014

…HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED THURSDAY ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND ALONG AND
NEAR THE BLUE RIDGE…

.A STRONG AND SLOW MOVING COLD FRONT WILL APPROACH FROM THE WEST
TONIGHT AND SHOULD MOVE ACROSS THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST
GEORGIA ON THURSDAY. DEEP MOISTURE MOVING ALONG THE FRONT WILL
FUEL NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS STARTING TONIGHT AND CONTINUING
THROUGH THURSDAY. ALTHOUGH SOIL CONDITIONS WILL START OUT
RELATIVELY DRY…THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR ENOUGH RAIN TO FALL IN A
SHORT ENOUGH PERIOD OF TIME TO RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING…
PARTICULARLY ALONG AND NEAR THE BLUE RIDGE. THE FRONT SHOULD MOVE
THE THUNDERSTORMS OFF TO THE EAST ON THURSDAY NIGHT. LATER
DEVELOPMENTS WITH REGARD TO THE FORECAST MIGHT RESULT IN THE FLOOD
WATCH BEING EXPANDED ACROSS THE UPSTATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND THE
WESTERN PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA.
