...A MAJOR WINTER STORM GRADUALLY DEVELOPING ACROSS NORTHEAST
GEORGIA...UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA...AND WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA...

.MAINLY LIGHT PRECIPITATION WILL START TO SPREAD NORTHWARD ACROSS
THE REGION TODAY...PRODUCING LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS
NORTHEAST GEORGIA...UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA...AND THE CHARLOTTE
METRO AREA THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. STARTING TONIGHT INTO
WEDNESDAY...MORE ABUNDANT MOISTURE WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION JUST
AS A VERY COLD AIRMASS SETTLES SOUTHWARD FROM HIGH PRESSURE OVER
THE MID ATLANTIC. THE COMBINATION OF THESE FEATURES WILL ALLOW
HEAVY ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW...SLEET...AND FREEZING RAIN TO IMPACT

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6
PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM EST THURSDAY.

* LOCATIONS...THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS OF WESTERN NORTH
  CAROLINA.

* HAZARDS...HEAVY SNOW.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL LIKELY DEVELOP FROM THE SOUTH TODAY AND THEN
  INCREASE IN INTENSITY THROUGH WEDNESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
  THE SNOW WILL END FROM THE WEST THURSDAY MORNING.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 4 TO 8 INCHES...POSSIBLY A
  LITTLE LESS IN THE FAR SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS AND A LITTLE MORE JUST
  EAST OF THE MOUNTAINS.

* IMPACTS...HEAVY SNOW WILL MAKE TRAVEL TREACHEROUS. THE
  ACCUMULATIONS MAY ALSO CREATE POWER OUTAGES...ESPECIALLY
  WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE UPPER 20S AND LOWER 30S.

* WINDS...NORTHEAST 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.

EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MOUNTAINS…4 TO 6 INCHES ALONG AND
NORTHWEST OF THE INTERSTATE 85 CORRIDOR…AND 2 TO 4 INCHES
SOUTHEAST OF INTERSTATE 85. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A TRACE TO ONE
TENTH OF AN INCH ARE EXPECTED ALONG INTERSTATE 85…WITH
ACCUMULATIONS RANGING UP TO ONE QUARTER TO ONE THIRD OF AN INCH
IN THE SOUTHEAST PIEDMONT FROM ABBEVILLE TO CHESTER TO MONROE.

* IMPACTS…THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW…SIGNIFICANT
SLEET…AND FREEZING RAIN WILL MAKE TRAVEL TREACHEROUS. THE
