THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTHEAST GEORGIA…PIEDMONT
NORTH CAROLINA…WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA AND UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA.

.DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT.

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE FROM THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THIS
MORNING TO THE BASE OF THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS BY LATE DAY.
SCATTERED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO FORM IN THE
WARM AND HUMID AIRMASS WELL AHEAD OF THE APPROACHING FRONT THIS
AFTERNOON…WITH COVERAGE EXPANDING RAPIDLY FROM THE SOUTHWEST LATE
IN THE DAY. THE EARLIEST ROUND OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY SHOULD IMPACT MAINLY LOCATIONS NEAR…AND SOUTHEAST
OF…THE INTERSTATE 85 CORRIDOR. DAMAGING WINDS…LARGE HAIL…AND
ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL BE POSSIBLE.

A MORE SOLID LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO ACCOMPANY THE
ARRIVAL OF THE COLD FRONT TONIGHT. THIS ACTIVITY SHOULD PUSH THROUGH
THE MOUNTAINS DURING THE EVENING…THEN RACE EAST ACROSS THE
FOOTHILLS AND PIEDMONT THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS FRIDAY.
DAMAGING WINDS…LARGE HAIL…AND ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL ONCE AGAIN
BE POSSIBLE WITH ANY THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THIS LINE. THE
THUNDERSTORMS WILL PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AS WELL.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM OR TORNADO WATCHES WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED AT SOME
POINT LATER TODAY FOR MUCH OF THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST
GEORGIA. THINK ABOUT HOW YOU WILL KEEP ABREAST OF THE LATEST WATCH
OR WARNING STATEMENTS. MUCH OF THE PIEDMONT WILL LIKELY REMAIN UNDER
THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER WELL INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
FRIDAY. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE AN ALERTING NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR
MOBILE PHONE APP TO AWAKEN YOU IF NECESSARY. ALSO…PLAN AHEAD ABOUT
WHERE YOU WILL SHELTER IF SEVERE WEATHER THREATENS YOUR LOCATION.
REMEMBER THAT MOBILE HOMES ARE NOT SUFFICIENT PROTECTION AGAINST
SEVERE WIND GUSTS OR TORNADOES. MAKE ARRANGEMENTS NOW TO SHELTER IN
A STURDIER STRUCTURE IF SEVERE WEATHER BECOMES IMMINENT.
